Springtime Sunshine

9.05.18 | Kirsty Taylor

As seen in Journal Magazine.

April showers are behind us and we have had awonderful taste of summer of late…, so why not head over to the Mediterranean this Spring – not only are the prices more competitive, the milder weather makes travelling and sightseeing much more comfortable.  With short flight durations and easy connections, here are some ideas for a spring getaway.

Corfu – Greece
With the second series of ITV’s The Durrells back on our screens, Corfu is once again very much in the spotlight.  An often overlooked island, many believe it has lost its Greek charm and style.  This could not be further from the truth – head a little inland to discover ancient forests of olive trees and sleepy little hillside villages with their pastel coloured houses and crumbling Venetian style bell towers.  Or why not venture to one of the islands charming seaside hamlets in the scenic north east where you will discover a side of Corfu still recognisable from that enjoyed by the Durrell family.

Lake Garda – Italy
With one of the best microclimates in northern Italy, and being a 2 hour flight away from the UK, Lake Garda is the perfect choice for a springtime break, with temperatures in May averaging around 24 degrees celsius.  There is so much to see and do in Lake Garda, and the early season is a perfect time to make the most of the many sporting facilities it has to offer.  Walking and hiking are extremely popular with easy and challenging routes to suit all levels.  There are some fabulous hillside walks near the town of Malcesine, as well as lovely flat lakeside walks at the northern end of the lake.  As expected, water sports are a main attraction with sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing on offer.  If relaxation is what you crave, Lake Garda boasts some beautiful properties with amazing spa facilities, and swimming pools with some of the most amazing views you could ever see – our favourite is the Lefay Resort & Spa in Gargnano.  A great option for those who would like to see as much of the area as possible is to join an escorted group tour which enables a glimpse of the lesser known parts of the Lake with a knowledgeable guide.  Kirsty, Nuria and Sam have all recently attending a Lake Garda training evening, so please do contact them for more information.

Vienna – Austria
The Austrian capital of Vienna is the perfect destination for a city break at any time of the year, but springtime is particularly beautiful with a mild climate and blue skies.  A short 2 hour flight from Birmingham transports you to a city full of the most breathtaking architecture, history and culture with classical concerts and operas taking place on a daily basis.  With an abundance of museums and galleries to visit, planning ahead before your trip to Vienna is a must, and Kirsty in the office is on hand to help and advise on the best places to see after recently visiting herself.  Foodies are very well catered for in Vienna, with a visit to a traditional coffee house an absolute must – the Viennese are as passionate about coffee as the Italians!  Major exhibitions taking place in the capital in 2018 include 300 Years of Viennese Porcelain at the Porcelain Museum, and The Viennese Watercolour exhibition which showcases some of the most outstanding pieces of Viennese watercolour paintings from the 19th century.

Croatian Cruise
Croatia’s popularity has soared in recent years, and cruising the breathtakingly scenic coastline onboard small vessels has to be one of the best ways to experience this beautiful country.  We particularly like the Agape Rose – an 18 suite luxury craft which was commissioned in 2017.  Cruises in Croatia are all about relaxation with a casual feel, so there’s no need for tuxedos and ball gowns!  The emphasis is on the stunning scenery of the coastline and islands, and the crystal clear sea which is constantly changing colours to the most beautiful shades of blue.  A number of staff at RB Collection have visited Croatia, and all agree that the sea is probably the most beautiful and clear they have ever seen! 7 nights from around £1,200 per person low season to £2,000 per person in high season Top tip: This holiday sells out very quickly so do book asap, or register with us for 2019.
