Day 1: Fly to San José
Fly to San José, transfer to the Crowne Plaza Corobici Hotel for 2 nights. (N)
Day 2: San José
In the morning, visit the Poas volcano or Irazu volcano and the spectacular turquoise crater lake. The afternoon is at your leisure. (B)
Day 3: Tortuguero
This morning there will be a shared overland transfer to Caño Blanco on the beautiful Caribbean coast. You will then cruise through the canals and backwaters that lead to Tortuguero, searching for birdlife, monkeys, sloths and other wildlife. Stay at Mawamba Lodge for 2 nights. (B, L, D)
Day 4: Tortuguero
Today there is a full day programme of shared local excursions in Tortuguero. From July to September, opt is to observe turtles nesting on the beach. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Arenal
Return to Caño Blanco by boat and then drive onwards to Arenal, visiting La Selva Biological Station en-route. Learn about the wonderful scientific and conservation work of the researchers, take a short walk in the protected rainforest surroundings. You will then stay 2 nights at Arenal Paraiso hotel, with views of the Arenal volcano. (B, L)
Day 6: Caño Negro
Today there is a full-day tour to Caño Negro, an important wetland habitat for a range of bird species. (B, L)
Day 7: Monteverde
Experience a shared boat across Lake Arenal, taking in the breathtaking views of the lake and its surroundings. Continue onwards to Monteverde for 2 nights at the Fonda Vela Hotel. This afternoon visit the Selvatura Butterfly Garden & Walkways and explore the treetop canopy from the hanging bridges. (B)
Day 8: Monteverde
This morning you will take a tour of the Monteverde cloud forest, a habitat for rare flora and fauna, such as the beautifully colourful quetzal bird. Then in the afternoon visit to a typical family-run farm to learn about coffee and sugar cane production. (B, L)
Day 9: San José via Sarchí
Return to San José via the town of Sarchí, home to traditional Costa Rican handicrafts and colourfully painted ox carts. Tonight, stay overnight at the Crowne Plaza Corobici Hotel. (B)
Day 10: Fly to UK
Transfer to the airport for a flight to the UK.
Day 11: London
Morning arrival. (N)

This tour is based in 3- and 4-star accommodation. All the lodges are comfortable, but do not always have a large range of facilities. The tour includes some longer drives on unpaved roads.
