This hotel, which originally opened as the Pension Belvedere in 1893, has hosted a long list of high-profile guests throughout its history, including Virginia Woolf, King Farouk of Egypt, Humphrey Bogart, film director John Huston, ballerina Margot Fonteyn and Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida.
The hotel has been refurbished to the highest standards, and offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean and Amalfi Coast, perched on a cliff at the highest point in Ravello.
The immediate surroundings are equally charming, with narrow alleys and steps winding between stucco-fronted houses towards the hotel’s reception, and luxurious interiors and a park of oleanders and wisteria beyond.
There is a range of dining facilities to suit different occasions, and of course, traditional Neapolitan cuisine and regional Italian dishes are a speciality. For the ultimate in relaxation, a broad selection of spa and massage services is available at the hotel’s wellness centre.
Not all facilities are complimentary, and some are subject to seasonal demand.
Hotel facilities: interconnecting rooms, disability-friendly rooms, fitness room, spa/wellness centre, babysitting, outdoor heated pool, wi-fi in public areas
By far my favourite hotel on the Amalfi Coast, the elegant Belmond Hotel Caruso is located on the highest point in Ravello, and exudes style and sophistication. Because of its elevated position, the hotel offers the most breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, and the wonderful infinity pool has to be seen to be believed. A truly luxurious hotel that still retains its traditional charm – perfect for an extra special break.
