Joanna Lumley travels back to the country of her birth to celebrate the great nation that it is today. A year older than Independent India itself, Joanna was born in India into the last days of The Raj and India was home to both sides of her family for several generations.

Joanna travels the length and breadth of India, beginning her epic journey in Tamil Nadu - on the tip of the continent - and working her way up to the north.

In this episode, Joanna witnesses religious ceremonies in glorious temples; learns how scientists are enabling people in tea plantations to live alongside wild elephants and with the help of computers is turned into a multi-limbed indian goddess. In Kolkata Joanna takes to the streets at night with a local guide and meets some members of IndiaÕs transgender community. Finally Joanna journeys high into the HimalayaÕs to visit Gangtok in Sikkim where her mother lived as a child, and so holds a strong family connection for Joanna.

Oliver’s first visit to India…

Last year I visited India for the first time myself.  The locals welcomed me with open arms and proudly toured me around a number of significant historic sites. The decoration and architecture were jaw-dropping. I sampled the local cuisine, travelled through stunning landscapes and witnessed daily village life. I even had a cooking class and met with one of India’s leading human rights campaigners. It was a life-changing experience and a trip I will cherish forever.

I would be delighted to plan the perfect tour for you and create your India holiday memories. Whether you prefer an escorted group tour or a private tour we have a range of options to choose from so please do not hesitate to contact our office of myself personally.

For further details and to book your India holiday call us on 01543 258631 or reply to me personally at this email address.

Here’s some feedback from Mr & Mrs Rolls who I arranged an India tour for last year…

“Oliver took the time to find out what we wanted to do and planned our holiday accordingly. It was a complete change of culture – many memories of special places and opportunity to meet people locally. All of the RB team have specialised knowledge about different areas. You are all so committed to offering the holiday we want. Lots of thanks from us both…” Mr & Mrs Rolls.
