My Gran Canaria experience

3.08.15 | Nathan Collins

I visited Gran Canaria with my wife and little Harry for, well, quite simply a little winter sunshine. Having not visited the island before, I was intrigued to find out if it would live up to the quality of some of the luxury resorts offered on other Canary Islands such as Tenerife, which we know well. I wasn’t disappointed.

The island benefits from golden sandy beaches, and lots of them, with miles of wide open sands offering plenty of space to enjoy the winter sun on your luxury holiday to the Gran Canaria.

As with many of the Canary Islands, there are busy resorts which can be avoided easily by carefully choosing your hotel and resort for your luxury holiday to Gran Canaria.

I visited a number of hotels while on my holiday, some of which were very large and aimed at the family market, perfect for those with children of all ages. The larger the resort, the more facilities, so if that is something which is important for your luxury family holiday then they are a good option.

If you prefer smaller, more boutique-style hotels on holiday then the island has a couple of hidden gems which I also visited and would be able to recommend. One in particular was extremely charming and I have since sent a number of clients there, with great feedback.

If you are looking for somewhere to relax, enjoy the sunshine, pool or golden sands, then Gran Canaria is a good all-year option, perfect for the winter season when the other Mediterranean resorts close down. The flight takes around four hours and there are departures from a number of regional airports across the UK.
