It is an exciting time for us living in the Midlands with Birmingham Airport announcing a number of new airlines and growing its route network. Here is a quick round up.

The biggest announcement is that Qatar Airways, one of the world’s most luxurious carriers, will be flying one of their new Boeing 787 Dreamliners from Birmingham to Doha from March 2016. This will open up connections to 152 key business and leisure destinations across the Middle East, Australasia, Africa and Asia. The aircraft will offer a two-cabin configuration with their award-winning Economy and Business Class services. Of course we already have Emirates to Dubai from Birmingham (now three times per week with a First Class cabin on one service). This second Middle Eastern airline will no doubt make the route more competitive and so we will expect some good prices for this popular route.

Closer to home, Birmingham Airport welcomed two additional direct services to Tenerife and Gran Canaria this month onboard state-of-the-art 737s, with complimentary wi-fi onboard.

We will also be welcoming back a direct service to Prague with Czech Airlines departing Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from April 2016. A city steeped in fascinating history, we recommend staying near Prague Castle for a more authentic Czech experience. We know a wonderful hotel, converted from an old stable house near one of the oldest monasteries in Europe.

Madrid appears to be the new place to be next year, as three airlines will operate flights to the Spanish capital in 2016. On the 24th March, Iberia will launch four weekly flights to the leisure and business route, and will connect to 35 connections across the Iberia network to some of our most popular Latin America destinations such as Peru and Ecuador, including the Galapagos Islands. Madrid itself offers many attractions for a city break including tours of the famous Camp Nou stadium.

Another hidden gem which would be worth considering for a short break is the city of Antwerp in Belgium. Famous for its chocolate and fashion, it is a pretty place to wander around and take in historic architecture. If fashion is your thing, the Mode Museum is worth a visit, with changing exhibitions through the year, and a great a place to learn about the famous fashion designers who have emerged from this city.

Additional new services to Bucharest, Rotterdam and Warsaw are also due to commence next year offering more variety to local travellers, and there are extra frequencies to Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Hannover, Milan and Stuttgart.

Scandinavian Airlines will be increasing its service to Copenhagen from 12 to 16 per week. My fellow director Oliver recently visited the Danish capital and was really impressed by how friendly the city was, with superb cuisine, and with a good current conversion rate, it is better value for money than in previous years.

It is good to see Birmingham Airport is making a real effort to expand its flight routes available to you, opening up these new and exciting destinations. To plan and book your next luxury holiday, call us on 01543 261 550 or email vip@rbcollection.com.
